TEXT CAMPAIGN INFORMATION
Let’s FLOOD the inboxes of Chad, Melissa, David, Paul, Brad, and John before the meeting. Below is a sample text message you can use. I tried to make it as neutral and non-confrontational as possible. Before you text, here are some tips to consider:
TIPS:
• Set aside a 30-60 minutes to text 10 friends, and be ready and available to respond (the worst thing is if they respond and you don’t! haha)
• Read the room, be prepared for counter questions and have a plan for opposition. Remember, it’s ok to say, “I don’t know the answer to that question, but I’d love to look into that! Maybe we can both do some research and share what we find?”
• Some people may not respond, that’s fine. Let it lie. But if they respond and are mask-optional, I recommend replying with a kind message hoping you could have a discussion sometime to see each other’s points of views (if you’re open to that). Be respectful and remember, we don’t want to lose friends, we just want to gain allies!!!
• Try to open this dialogue with people you know will be open to the idea of a mask mandate. I wouldn’t go sending it to someone who is an admin for the Free Aves Faces group
• Do what you feel comfortable with! If this isn’t your thing, we get it. But we thought this is easier than going to businesses and hanging flyers or knocking on doors!
• I truly believe we can get 1,000 emails sent before the meeting on the 4th! If every one of the 282 members in this group gets only 4 people to send an email, we’ll reach our goal!

Hey, I wanted to see if we could talk about the Sycamore School District masking policy? It is really important to me that all students and staff are masked, despite vaccination status, and I know you care about the health and safety of not only yours, but all students in Sycamore. The other side (mask-optional crowd) is large and loud and we want to be louder. We have a website, www.masksycamore.com, where you can read through talking points for an email, the recommendations from the experts, and learn about how to get involved.
This weekend we are hoping to FLOOD the inboxes of the superintendent, Chad Lewis, and entire Board of Education. We have a smaller group and we are a bit behind because a lot of us trusted they’d follow the recommendations of the CDC and AAP but instead they’ve made it political, so we want as many people as possible to email them with the subject “Make Masks Mandatory” (or something like that) with why you think they should be required. It can be facts, it can be an emotional plea, whatever your reasoning we just need them to know we aren’t the minority and we care.
The BOE is meeting this Wednesday, August 4 at 7:30 am to vote on this and there is info on attending that meeting on the website as well. If you’d like to join the FB group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/2630323250595551), there are a lot of resources and it’s a great place to feel heard and know we aren’t the only ones. If you have any questions or want to chat more, I’m here, the FB group is here, and all questions are welcome. Thank you for speaking up for our students!
If you want to email them all at once, here are all of their email addresses to copy and paste:
